Thomas Francis Galwey was born in London, in 1846, of an Irish family which emigrated to the USA when he was four. He fought through the whole Civil War (1861-1865) and his military careet was brilliant. After the war, he worked first as a newspaper editor and teacher, and later as a civil servant attorney for the City of New York for twenty years. He died in New York City on 20 February 1913.
Thomas Francis Galwey è nato a Londra, nel 1846, da una famiglia irlandese emigrata negli USA quando lui aveva appena quattro anni. Ha combattuto per tutta la Guerra Civile Americana (1861-1865) e ha costruito una brillante carriera militare. Dopo la guerra, ha lavorato prima come redattore di giornale e insegnante, poi come difensore d’ufficio per la città di New York per vent’anni. È morto il 20 febbraio 1913 a New York City.

He has taught at various Universities: Rome (La Sapienza), Perugia (University for Foreigners), Naples (l’Orientale), L’Aquila and Trento. Visiting professorships: University for the Humanities (Moscow) and Universidade Federal de Alagoas (Brazil).
